Sporting CP learn Champions League qualification fate

The draw for the UEFA Women's Champions League qualification round took place this Friday, handing Sporting CP a place in Group 8 along with BIIK-Kazygurt (Kazakhstan), do MTK Hungary (Hungary) and Hajvalia (Kosovo).

The qualification tournament will take place from the 22nd to the 28th of August, with the winner and best runner-up qualifying for the main competition.

Qualification round: 22nd to 28th of August

Last 32 draw: 1st of September

Last 32: 4th/5th and 11th/12th of October

Last 16 draw: 16th of October

Last 16 : 8th/9th and 15th/16th November

Five ladies for Euro 2017

The Portuguese female national team will see five Sporting CP players star in the Euro 2017 squad, taking place in the Netherlands on the 16th of July.

The five Alvalade ladies are Patrícia Morais (goalkeeper), Fátima Pinto (midfielder), Tatiana Pinto (midfielder), Diana Silva (forward) and Ana Borges (forward).

Alvalade provides six players for European Championship qualifiers

Sporting CP dominates the latest national under-19 ladies call up, with a total of six players in the the group of 19. for three matches in the UEFA Elite Round (European Championship qualification).

The six are: Inês Pereira (goalkeeper), Bruna Costa (defender), Tânia Rodrigues (defender), Bárbara Marques (midfielder), Constança Silva (winger) and Neuza Besugo (forward).

Portugal will face France (06/04), the Netherlands (08/04) and Slovenia (11/04).

The national under-19 ladies team will again gather in Oeiras next week, with Sporting CP lending a total of six athletes: Bárbara Marques, Bruna Costa, Constança Silva, Inês Pereira, Neuza Besugo and Tânia Rodrigues.

Sporting CP's under-19 ladies team dominates the recently announced national squad list for two friendly encounters against Finland, to be played in the 25 de Abril Municipal Stadium on the 28th of February (16h00) and in the Fernando Mamede Sports Complex on the 2nd of March (12h00).

The Alvalade stars included are Bárbara Marques, Bruna Costa, Constança Silva, Inês Pereira, Neuza Besugo and Tânia Rodrigues.

Alvalade ladies 2nd in International Turbine Hallencup

Sporting CP's first showing ends with a fantastic 2nd place

Sporting CP's female football team travelled to Germany this weekend to take part in the 5th International Turbine Hallencup, along with some of Europe's top sides.

The Alvalade stars were placed in Group B, with Stabaek IF, FFC Turbine Potsdam and MTK Hungary FC. Meanwhile Sgroup A was comprised of AC Sparta Praha, Fortuna Hjorring, Glasgow City FC and SKN St. Polten.
 
Nuno Cristóvão's side won two of their four Group Stage matches, firstly beating MTK Hungary 3-2 and later Stabaek IF 5-3.

 

Progressing on to the final, Sporting CP battled hard against Turbine Potsdam, but eventually slipped to a 3-1 defeat to finish in second.

Alvalade leads call-up for Euro squad

The Portuguese Football Federation announced its preliminary under-19 squad list for the coming European Championship Qualification Tournament this week, to be held in Bosnia from the 11th to the 24th of October.

Sporting CP is the most represented club, with six players: Bárbara Marques; Bruna Costa; Constança Silva, Inês Pereira; Neuza Besugo; and Tânia Rodrigues.

The squad will gather at the national team's facility for a training camp from the 12th to the 15th of September.

Trails to take place this Sunday at the Sporting Academy

Sporting Clube de Portugal will be holding trails for its female football squad this Sunday, at the Sporting Academy.

Due to high demand, trails will be limited to the first 150 ladies, born from 2001 to 2003. Those interested in taking part are encouraged to arrive as early as possible, with the session scheduled to start at 13h30.

Three new signings for female football

Sara Granja, Tânia Rodrigues and Nadine Cordeiro all pen deals

A total of 12 ladies have already put pen to paper and signed for Sporting's female football team, after the sport made its return to the club after 21 years.

The ladies far announced are: Solange Carvalhas, Fátima Pinto, Diana Silva, Patrícia Morais, Matilde Figueiras, Ana Capeta, Ana Rita Viegas, Bárbara Marques and Bruna Costa, along with the signings of Sara Granja, Tânia Rodrigues and Nadine Cordeiro this Friday.

Sara Granja, 26, arrived in Alvalade after spells with Albergaria Mazel, Valadares and UMF Afturelding. “Sporting Clube de Portugal scares a lot of people. We will be looking to win the league, the cup and to reach the champions league", said Granja in an interview with the Sporting Journal.

A 17-year old striker, Tânia Rodrigues proved overjoyed with the chance to represent Sporting: "Our objective is to win the league. I would the opportunity to play for the national team."

Nadine Cordeiro is a 19-year old midfielder and already has caps for the national under-16, under-17 and under-19 teams.
