Maria Siderot earns bronze in Bucharest

Alvalade judoka beats Joana Diogo in podium decider

Maria Siderot claimed the bronze medal in the <48kg event at the Bucharest European Judo Open this week, after beating fellow Portuguese athlete in a dramatic final showdown.

The Alvalade judoka opened with a couple of wins against Katarzyna Wiszniewska and Katharina Menz, before missing out to Francesca Milani.

However Siderot recovered to beat Diogo in the bronze medal decided.

Doina Babcenco was also in action (<63kg), missing out in her first encounter against Nadja Bazynski.

Ramos claims bronze in Warsaw

Alvalade judoka beats world number 3 in European Championships

Joana Ramos won the bronze medal at the European Judo Championships in Warsaw this week.

The Alvalade judoka beat the world number 3 Gili Cohen in the decisive bout, after missing out for a chance of gold against the reigning Olympic champion, Majlinda Kelmendi.

On the road to the podium Ramos also got the better of Madelene Rubinstein, Andreea Chitu (9.ª) and Alexandra-Larisa Florian.

Also in action were Sporting CP's Sergiu Oleinic and Maria Siderot, both missing out in their second fights of the day.

Jorge Fonseca will test his luck tomorrow.

Maria Siderot close to podium finish

Alvalade Judoka repeats 5th place secured Tbilisi, this time in Antalya

Maria Siderot finished the Antalya Judo Grand Prix in an admirable 5th place this week, missing out one round short of the medal round to Noa Minsker. Siderot started strong, before being stopped by Sabina Giliazva in the battle for gold and then to Noa Minsker in the bronze play-off.

Also in competition was David Reis (<66 kg), beaten by Artur Te.

Joana Ramos claims bronze in Tbilisi

Alvalade judoka turns in best result of the season so far, with a bronze in the Georgian capital

Joana Ramos claimed the gold medal in the Tbilisi Judo Grand Prix (<52kg) this Friday, betting the Hungarian Reka Pupp in the medal bout.

Joana Ramos opened with a win against Bernadett Keliger, but was denied a shot at gold after missing out against Charline Van Snick. Despite the setback, the Alvalade judoka recovered to beat Chelsie Giles before winning her bronze medal encounter.

 

Also in action were Sporting CP's Maria Siderot, Taciana Lima, Sergiu Oleinic and David Reis.

Luís Carmo and Jorge Fonseca are also set to feature this weekend.

Sergiu Oleinic seventh in Paris Grand Slam

A top-10 finish and two debuts for Sporting in the French capital

Alvalade judoka Sergiu Oleinic finished seventh in the Paris Grand Slam this week, after coming up just short of a bronze medal. Competing in the <66kg competition, Oleinic opened with a win against Sinan Sandal, before beating Sulaiman Hamad. Oleinic's run was eventually brought to a halt by Antoine Bouchard and Vazha Margvelashviki.
 
"I started well in my first two fights and the draw was kind to be as well. I was surprised a bit by the Canadian in the quarter-finals", said Oleinic at the end of the day.
 
Also in action were youngsters Maria Siderot and David Reis. In the <66kg competition, Reis missed out in his first encounter, but is a promising athlete to keep an eye on in the future. Meanwhile Maria Siderot (<48kg) won here first bout.

Six Alvalade judokas in Paris Grand Slam

Six out of a squad of eleven from Sporting CP for Portugal

The Portuguese Judo Federation announced its squad for the coming Paris Grand Slam this week, with six Alvalade judokas featuring for the tournament, running from the 9th to the 16th of February: Sergiu Oleinic, David Reis, Anri Egutidze, Jorge Fonseca, Maria Siderot and Joana Ramos.

Maria Siderot wins bronze

Junior European Judo Cup, taking place in Coimbra over the weekend

The Alvalade judoka Maria Siderot rounded off a brilliant performance in the Junior European Judo Cup this Saturday, competing in the <48kg event.

Maria started with a win in Pool C against the Spaniard Rocio Garcia Torres, before missing out to here compatriot Patrícia Matias. However Maria recovered to bear the Canadian Laurence Thiffault, followed by victory against the Brit Amber Gersjes and Catarina Costa.

In the <57kg event, Wilsa Gomes, in action for Cape Verde, beat Sonia Montero Gonzalez, before missing out to Ana Neves.

In the male competition, Vasco Reves (<55kg) was stopped in his first encounter by the Italian, Liborio Basirico.

Miguel Alves (<73kg) finished in 9th after beating the Brit Adam Bolwell and the Dutchman Jasper Van der Oetelaar, before falling to Sinanovic and eventually Alex Marineau. In the same weight group, Miguel Guerreiro missed out in the qualification round against Christoffer Macias.
