"We have to improve a bit. We were better than we have been, but there is still a bit of pre-season work to do", said the Sporting shotstopper, adding a word on his unexpected appearance against Lyon: "I wasn't here for the rest of the pre-season and this is the chance to get some mistakes out of our system. If we have to make mistakes, then it is best to do it now. We want to win everything we are involved in this season and that is what we are setting out to do."

Spanish newspaper runs piece on Alvalade keeper

The Monday edition of Marca ran a piece on Sporting shotstopper Rui Patrício this week, highlighting his role in Portugal's run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals and his fantastic penalty stop against Poland.

"The secret to Patrício is work and more work. He is a humble guy and that is what makes him keep getting better. One-on-one, he is the best in the world", reads the article adding to fellow Portuguese star's Danilo affirmation of Patrício being "better than Neuer".

Sporting has long been known for his brilliance defending from 12-yards, having made a stop on his debut against Marítimo. He repeated the trick in the 2008 Super Cup final, as well as against Jackson Martínez in a 3-1 win and in the final of the Portuguese Cup in Jamor in 2015.

Patrício has also saved penalties in the European scene, having denied Cleiton in a match against Metalist, as well as Doumbia in the Champions League play-offs. In total he has stopped 13 penalties so far in his Sporting career.

Group of 70 children meet their favourite stars

Estádio José Alvalade hosted a group of children from Cantanhede, in the district of Coimbra this weekend, in a visit attended by Rui Patrício and Bruno César.

For the Sporting goalkeeper, the youngsters had more than earned the meeting with their favourite stars, after traveling 219km to the Portuguese capital. “This type of initiatives are really important for the kids. Being a fan of a club is something that starts when we are young. It is really special for us as players to be with them when they visit the stadium and the museum", said Rui Patrício at the end of the visit.

The Cantanhede Primary School's coordinator, Maria do Céu Pinto, also enjoyed the day: "It was an hour to meet President Bruno de Carvalho, with Rui Patrício and Bruno César. We are really thankful. Most of the kids are in their first year of school and they had never been anywhere near the players before. We are really happy with Sporting having accepted our visit."
