"The first club to open an academy in Costa Rica"

Bruno de Carvalho returns to Lisbon after a fruitful visit to Costa Rica

The Alvalade president Bruno de Carvalho touched down in the Portuguese capital this Saturday, following a productive trip to Costa Rica to open a new Sporting Academy School.

"Sporting CP is the first club to open an academy in Costa Rica. It is really important for our strategy and what we are planning to do in Central and South America. We also used the opportunity to meet with the Costa Football Federation and to talk about ladies football, beach soccer and futsal. We also had the chance to make make contact with other Central American countries. It was really interesting and all of the kids who were there really enjoyed it. Firstly for having the opportunity to put on the Sporting CP shirt, but also because they met Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell", opened Bruno de Carvalho, adding: "It is a another academy and another country that we are working directly. They have a lot of promising young players over there and that is really important for us. A club like Sporting CP has to be in Costa Rica, not just because of the brand but also because of the talent there. As a club specialised in training we want to contribute to the development of football in Costa Rica."

The Sporting CP president finished with a word on the Football Talks conference hosted in Lisbon this week: "Football cannot be separated from new technologies...when I started speaking about Video Assistant Referees four years ago nobody listened. Including those who are now going to conferences and saying good things about it. I guess I was right after all, because everyone says football with have technology involved."

Bruno de Carvalho's visit to Costa Rica continued this week. After opening the first Sporting Academy School in Central America, the Sporting CP president was at the Wilmer López Academy where Costa Rica are gearing up for their coming World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

After visiting the facility, the Bruno de Carvalho was ready to share his thoughts. "This is a world class facility. I spoke with the president and I told him that these facilities are magnificent and I understand the quality of the football that this country produces", said the Alvalade chief, adding a note on his memories of the Costa Rican national team: "Reaching the quarter-finals at the last World Cup was not an accident. This team will still surprise us. They are packed full of talent and have everything needed for the players to grow even more."
 
Also on hand to highlight the importance of the Sporting Academy School project was the Wilmer López Academy's Édgar Artavia: "I am really happy with the way that the Costa Rica Federation has welcomed Sporting CP. In terms of football these kinds of relationships are crucial and I feel really proud. They have already told us that our facilities are on the same level as the Europeans."
 
To finish, FEDEFUTEBOL president Rodolfo Villalobos also gave his backing to the project: "Hopefully this is just the beginning of a great relationship with Sporting CP."

Bruno de Carvalho in Costa Rica to open Sporting Academy School

The Sporting Academy School project officially appeared on the map in Central America for the first time this week. In Costa Rica for the opening of the country's first Sporting Academy School, Bruno de Carvalho, also took the opportunity to speak with local radio and television stations. 

Speaking with local radio, the Alvalade president explained the project to the journalist and the crucial role that Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell have played: "We have been studying Costa Rica for a few years now, because this country has a lot of talent. It is really important for us to find people who share our philosophy, by which I mean training youth players as both athletes and human beings. Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell contributed to that and they are both excellent people and professionals."
 
Expanding further on that same idea of a common philosophy, Bruno de Carvalho added: "I don't want a different Sporting CP, I want the one I learned to love and respect. We a re a club with a fantastic history, although things haven't been going as we would like in relation to football. In Costa Rica we are looking for players who can bring consistency to a squad that has to win."

Alvalade president opens Costa Rica Academy

Bruno de Carvalho travels to San José to open the doors of the latest Sporting Academy School, along with Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell

Bruno de Carvalho is in Costa Rica this Monday, to open the latest Sporting Academy School. The Alvalade leader will be accompanied by Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell, who are both in their native territory on international duty. The Alvalade president actually arrived on Sunday, in time to watch UD Carmelita-Limon FC.
