Elias sits down for an interview with O Jogo

Elias spoke in an extensive interview with the newspaper O Jogo this week. Reflecting on his return to the Portuguese capital, the Brazilian proved surprised with the progress visible in Alvalade. "Everyone who works at the club wants to win", said the 31-year old, going on to comment on his battle with Adrien for a place in the team: "He is a player that I really respect and he is a fundamental part of the team both on and off the pitch. I hope to stays with us for a long time."

Jorge Jesus was inevitably the target of a question or two, seeing Elias answer: "He is really different. He is the best coach out there right now. I have had some really good coaches, like Tite with Brazil and now Jesus is the best in my opinion. It is an honour to work with him."

In relation to president Bruno de Carvalho, Elias expressed his admiration: "He is working really hard for the club and for the players and we really appreciate him for that. It loves this club and wants to see us at the top. That kind of person is good for football."

Elias on his second Alvalade debut

Elias made his Alvalade debut this Saturday, albeit for the second time, in Sporting's 3-0 win against Moreirense this Saturday.

Asked how he feels to be back in a green and white shirt, the Brazilian couldn't be happier. "I am really happy to be back. It is a totally different team and we will fight for the title. I thought we played really well today and I felt good. After the sending off it was a lot easier", said Elias, before commenting on the differences between his two spells at Alvalade: "I don't like to compare things. Everything is good in some way. Things are different now though, with the coach, president and us fighting for the title."

First training session back on a pitch that the Brazilian knows better than most

Elias might have only returned from his native Brazil late yesterday afternoon, but the midfielder is already back in training. Elias looked like he had only been away for a couple of years as Jorge Jesus put his squad through a usually tasking session.

The squad was of course much reduced due to the current international break, but the players were in high spirits none the less.

Elias returns to Alvalade three years after departure

Not many people would have believed it, but Elias has indeed returned to Alvalade from Corinthians, three years after first leaving the Portuguese capital. Moments after penning his new deal, the Brazilian midfielder explained the reasoning behind the move.

"I am happy to be back. It is a club I know and that wants to win the league. That is what made me want to come back. Everything happened really quickly and I was surprised but really happy with Sporting's interest. I said straight away that I wanted to come back to this great club", said Elias, before going on to explain the Bruno de Carvalho's input in the move: "The president is really good at negotiating and he dealt with everything in 24 hours. I am more experienced now and I am better tactically and positionally. I don't attack as much, but I look to do it better when I do. I don't just want to flight for titles, I want to win them. This is a chance to pick up where I left off."
