“I really like Jesus' energy"

Schelotto highlights Jorge Jesus' influence since his arrival in the Portuguese capital

Sporting CP's Ezequiel Schelotto gave an extensive interview with Sporting TV this week, speaking about his relationship with Jorge Jesus and his new-found opportunity to show what he is capable of.

"This is a very well known team, where really famous players like Beto Acosta have played. Sporting CP is always in European competitions and I already knew Jesus for what he had been doing. I didn't hesitate for a second when he called me", opened the wing-back, adding: "I wasn't playing a lot and I took a decision together with my wife. After two years with Parma I decided to finish my contract. After that I waited for two months for an opportunity, which came through Jorge Jesus. He wanted to take to me and I am really greatful."

Schelotto also revealed what was said in his first conversation with Jesus: "He said to be: Ezequiel, you are coming here to play at right-back. We spoke on the phone, because I was in Italy, but when I arrived in Portugal he told me that he would help me adapt to the new position and that I would have to work hard because no one is guaranteed a place in the team here. It took me two months to adapt and I had already been out of training for two months. I really like Jesus' energy and all I can do is try and repay the confidence he has shown in me. I have learnt a lot."

Schelotto back from Argentina and ready to dive straight into training

The holiday season is already over for Ezequiel Schelotto, but the Italian-Argentinean couldn't be happier to return to Alvalade.

"All I was thinking about was coming back to Portugal and I can't wait to get into training with the team", affirmed the defender, continuing: "As of Monday, the coming season will be the only thing that matters. I am really looking forward to carrying on with the club and to putting a smile on the fans faces."

Schelotto has already found a special place in the Sporting faithfuls' hearts and he is looking to carry on in the coming campaign: "The fans are always with us. I received a lot of messages during my holidays asking me to carry on here. I always reply, because the fans are part of this project."

"A great feeling to be at a club of this size"

Ezequiel Schelotto's first thoughts as a Sporting player

Ezequiel Schelotto, a player who can feature anywhere on the pitch but most prefers being deployed down the right wing, was officially announced as the latest addition to the Alvalade armoury this week, penning a deal valid until the end of the season - with three additional seasons - and getting right into the mix in training with the rest of the squad. Having been a free agent since August after leaving Inter Milan, Schelotto is available for action immediately.

The Argentinean-born Italian has spent almost his entire career in Italy until now, having represented Cesena, Catania and Atalanta, before making the move to the Milan giants and going out on loan to Sassuolo, Parma and Chievo Verona. Schelotto learnt his trade in Banfield (the only Argentinean club he played for) and stands 1.87m tall.

“Honestly, it is  great feeling to be at a club of this size. I have been out for a while, but that is in the past now. I am thinking about the present and I really want to get into the group, get to know the coach and start playing", affirmed the Alvalade new recruit in his first interview.

Standing in front of pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luís Figo for a photography session, Sporting and Ezequiel Schelotto looked to the two Alvalade legends as the level to aspire to: "Behind me are photos of two amazing players, who won everything and the Ballon d'Or. History speaks for itself and although Sporting hasn't won a lot of titles for a while, but this season is going well and I am here to help. Sporting has a great coach, who helped me make the decision to come here."
