General Assembly President Jaime Marta Soares officially announces election date

The president of Sporting CP's General Assembly, Jaime Marta Soares, officially announced this Wednesday that the 2017 presidential elections will take place on the 4th of March.

"The election period has begun and, as president of the General Assembly, I hope that this is a manifestation of the vitality of Sporting and that campaigning happens with a spirit of elevation, respect and dignity. I hope the candidates discuss based on the best interests of Sporting CP. Individualism is not a good posture to take. I am looking for a campaign without personal attaches and that each project be discussed clearly. Portugal, not just Sporting CP's fans, will be watching us and in light of the vital sports and cultural importance of the club, it is vitally important that we respect the values of sport. I am hoping to see many people turn out to vote."

"A great moment between Sporting CP and Real Madrid"

Jaime Marta Soares on the visit of the giants from the Spanish capital

A Sporting committee made up of Bruno de Carvalho, Luís Roque, José Quintela, Artur Torres Pereira, Rui Caeiro, Bruno Mascarenhas and Jaime Marta Soares hosted a special lunch for their Real Madrid counterparts this Tuesday, ahead of the evening's Champions League encounter.

Speaking about the relationships between Alvalade and the Santiago Bernabéu, Sporting General Assembly president Jaime Marta Soares affirmed: "Football is played on the pitch, but the level of respect between the two institutions and directors is really important as well. The way we were hosted in Madrid was brilliant and we had to repay that here today. This is a great moment between Real Madrid and Sporting CP...It isn't every day that that you play against Real Madrid and have the chance to see the best players produced here on display. Ronaldo is 'Made in Sporting' and the whole world knows him, just like Figo and the other 10 of our lads who won the European Championship with Portugal."
