Competition to be held in Coimbra this weekend

Alvalade's judoka starlets will be in action in the Junior European Judo Cup this weekend, being hosted in Coimbra.

The Sporting athletes in action are the following:

Saturday:

Maria Siderot, 48kg

Wilsa Gomes, 57kg

Vasco Reves, 55kg

Miguel Guerreiro, 73kg

Miguel Alves, 73kg

Sunday:

Anri Egutidze, 81kg

EJU OTC Nymburk 2016, from the 7th to the 13th of March

The Alvalade judokas Joana Ramos (<52kg) and Jorge Fonseca (<100kg) will both feature in the EJU OTC Nymburk 2016 event, taking place in the Czech Republic from the 7th to the 13th of Match, after being called up by the Portuguese Judo Federation.

Jorge Fonseca is in great form this season and goes into the competition on the back of a win against the world number 1 in the Düsseldorf Grand Prix.

Judoka beats world number 1 but comes up short of medal positions

Jorge Fonseca finished the Düsseldorf Grand Prix <100kg competition in a brilliant fifth place this weekend, after missing out to the Iranian Javad Mahjoub in the bronze medal fight.

The Alvalade judoka opened his campaign with a win over Danilo Pantic, before getting the better of Beka Gviniashvili. Next up was a duel with the world number 1, Elmar Gasimov, seeing Fonseca claim one of the best scalps of his career after five and a half minutes of aciton.

In the semi-final, Fonseca lost out to world number 12 Jose Armenteros and world number 31 Javad Mahjoub.

Taciana Lima and Sergiu Oleinic also took part in the competition, with the athlete from Guinea Bissau eliminated in the qualification round and the Portuguese-Moldovan finishing 9th.

Positive showing from Alvalade judoka in <100kg grouping

Jorge Fonseca finished in an admirable 7th place in the Paris Judo Grand Slam <100kg category this Sunday, in a showing that included a win against a Dimitri Peters.

The Alvalade judoka, who currently occupies 23rd in the world rankings, started with a win against the Senegalese athlete Baboukar Mane, before recording a memorable victory against world number 7,  Dimitri Peters.

A win against the Hungarian Gergo Fogasy followed, before Fonseca's run was finally brought to a finish by world number 5, Cyrille Maret.

Sporting judoka misses out to Konstnatins Ovhinnikovs

Anri Egutidze's Paris Judo Grand Slam hopes were brought to an end in the preliminary phase this weekend, after losing to the Latvian, Konstantins Ovchinnikovs.

Sporting's best performer in the French capital so far has been Joana Ramos, claiming a 7th place finish in the <52kg competition.

Baul An eliminates Sporting judoka in <66kg Paris Grand Slam

Sergiu Oleinic was eliminated from the Paris Judo Grand Slam this week, at the hands of the world number 4 Baul An in the <66kg category.

As well as Sergiu Oleinic, Taciana Lima (eliminated in the preliminary phase, <48kg), Joana Ramos (<52kg), Anri Egutidze (<81kg) and Jorge Fonseca (<100kg) are also in action.

Four Alvalade judokas in action in Paris Grand Slam

Taciana Lima has been eliminated from the Paris Judo Grand Slam, after missing out in her second encounter in the <48kg group, at the hands of the Serbian Milica Nikolic.

The Guinea-Bissau born athlete, currently in 10th in the world ranking, started well with a win against world number 13, the Ukrainian Maryna Cherniak.

Also in action in Paris are Joana Ramos (<52kg), Sergiu Oleinic (<66kg), Anri Egutidze (<81kg) and Jorge Fonseca (<100kg).

Four Sporting judokas have been called up by the Portuguese Judo Federation for the coming Paris Grand Slam, taking place on the 6th and 7th of February: Joana Ramos (<52kg), Sergiu Oleinic (<66kg), Anri Egutidze (<81kg) and Jorge Fonseca (<100kg).

Sporting is the most represented club in the call-up, also comprised of: Leandra Freitas, Mariana Esteves, Telma Monteiro, Ana Cachola, Yahima Ramirez, Nuno Carvalho, Gonçalo Mansinho, André Soares, André Alves, Nuno Saraiva, Jorge Fernandes, Diogo Lima, Célio Dias and Tiago Rodrigues.

Alvalade judoka misses out Tsolmon Adiyasambuu in fight for bronze

Joana Ramos finished the Havana Judo Grand Prix <52kg competition in an admirable 5th place this weekend, after slipping up to Tsolmon Adiyasambuu.

The Alvalad judoka started er campaign with a win against the Polish competitor Agata Perenc, followed by victory over the home athlete Gretel Romero.

The German Mareen Kraeh won the gold, after beating the Belgian Ilse Heylen.

Taciana out, but Ramos fighting for bronze

Taciana Lima missed out in the preliminary phase in the Havana Judo Grand Prix this week, after slipping up against the French athlete Laetitia Payet in the <48kg category.

Meanwhile Joana Ramos had a better time and after beating the Polish fighter Agata Perenc, the Alvalade judoka will face the Cuban Gretel Romero in the semi-finals.
