Alvalade bows out of CERH European League with dominating performance against Spanish giants

Sporting CP said one final farewell to this season's CERH European League with a 6-3 win against Reus, who had so far remained unbeaten.

Pedro Gil stole the limelight on the night, netting on three occasions. Alex Rodriguez put the visitors ahead after 13 minutes, but five minutes later Caio leveled. Just before the interval Rodriguez again struck to take the Spanish side in leading at the break.

The second-half was an avalanche of Sporting CP attacking play. First it was Caio again equalising (31'), before Marin scored Reus' third and final of the night.

Up stepped Pedro Gil, scoring three times in as many minutes to secure the final result.

No place up for grabs in the next round of the CERH European League, but Sporting CP still wants the points

Alvalade's adventure in the CERH European League this season comes to a close this weekend with the hosting of the Spanish giants Réus. Although qualification for the next round of the competition is now mathematically impossible, coach Guillem Pérez still wants his team to put on a good show: "It won't mean anything for the standings, but it is a game that can help us find our confidence again. The lads believe in themselves and it is an important match for Sporting CP's image in Europe. Réus are the best Spanish side, together with Barcelona. They have won all of their matches so far and are second in their national league. They are obviously a good team and honestly it is the worst team we could come across now."

Sporting CP again get the better of Dinan Quevert in the CERH European League

After getting the better of Dinan Quevert in their CERH European League opener, Sporting CP again beat the French side this weekend (4-2), this time on away territory.

Pedro Gil scored a brace to put Guillem Pérez's side in the lead, before the hosts responded with a strike of their own. However, Miras then struck to keep the two-goal cushion at the break.

Quevert again pulled a goal back, before Caio sentenced the final result 10 minutes from time.

Italian champions bring Alvalade CERH hopes to an end

Sporting CP missed out 3-1 to Forte dei Marmi this Saturday, ending this season's CERH European League campaign.

It was a well balanced encounter, with both sides well organised in defence. Sporting CP needed to bring points home from Italy to keep quarter-final hopes alive, but the weekend's hosts had other ideas.

After a goalless first-half, Forte dei Marmi came out strong and took the lead through Gastón d'Oro. A brilliant spell for Sporting CP followed and an inspired solo play from Pedro Gil drew the scoreboard level. However, the 2015/16 semi-finalists rallied and two late strikes from Romero and Torner setenced the final result.

Guillem Pérez confident going into CERH European League showdown

The Sporting CP roller hockey coach Guillem Pérez sat down with the press this week, looking ahead to the weekend's CERH European League visit to Forte dei Marmi.

"This week was important for managing the psychological side of things, so beating Oliveirense really helped. It is easy to trust this squad when it has so many quality players", said Pérez, adding: "We are going to Italy to get the win. It is a really important game and we will have to play almost perfectly. We will show respect for our opponent, but we aren't scared and want to get through what is the competition's hardest group."

Alvalade skipper João Pinto looking to lead his side to victory in Italy

Sporting CP roller hockey skipper João Pinto knows that his side will have to improve in the CERH European League to keep the season's international campaign alive. Reflecting on the weekend's defeat to Forte dei Marmi, Pinto affirmed the need to reduce errors.

"It was two completely different matches in one. We started well, but we made mistakes, That simply cannot happen. If we play in Italy like we did in the first 15 minutes today, we will win. We have to win in Italy and if they managed it here then we can do it there. It has happened already in the CERS Cup and we will do everything we can to make it happen again."

Alvalade rolley hockey coach on the weekend's CERH European League action

Sporting CP hockey coach Guillem Pérez was understandably pleased with his side's home loss to Forte dei Marmi this weekend, complicating the chances of qualification for progression in the CERH European League.

"Forte dei Marmi didn't do anything to win this game, it was us who let them grow. We have to push hard in these matches and if we don't then we will lose", opened the Alvalade coach, adding his analysis of the encounter and where the result leaves his side: "We started well, but we can't let our opponent play at the pace they want. We had spoken about it during the week and we had to play at our pace, which is a bit slower than theirs. We will go to Italy and France now and try and get the wins. With Reus the home advantage will definitely help us get the win."
