Alvalade star shines in DSISO Championship

João Vaz finally arrived back in Lisbon at the end of this week after racking up no less than seven medals (five silver and two bronze) at the DSISO European Championships.

João Vaz's results in the 12 events he took part in:

- 200m butterfly – silver

- 400m medley – silver

- 4x25m medley – silver

- 4x50m freestyle – silver

- 4x100m medley – silver

- 4x50m medley – bronze

- 4x100m freestyle – bronze

- 200 metros estilos – 4th

- 4x50m freestyle – 4th

- 50m breast stroke – 5th

- 100m butterfly – 6th

- 200m breast stroke – disqualified

Sporting swimmer with silver in 400m medley and 200m butterfly in Loano

João Vaz has had a brilliant start to the DSISO European Championships, winning two individual silver medals and claiming a 4th place finish in the relay.

Repeating his earlier second place finish in the 400m medley, Vaz this time claimed the podium spot in the 200m butterfly with a time of 3:16.98, just behind the French swimmer Axel Belig.

Alvalade swimmer claims podium finish in 400m medley at the DSISO European Championships

João Vaz got his participation in this year's DSISO European Championships off to a dream start this weekend, winning a silver medal in the 400m medley event.

The Sporting athlete finished in a time of 6:43.26, beaten only by the Italian competitor Francesco Piccinini.

João Vaz had already earned a reputation over the distance, having won silver in the World Championships in Mexico last year.

Competition to be hosted in the Italian city of Loano

João Vaz will be in action in the DSISO 2015 European Championships over the next few days.

The 23-year old is going into action on a high, having already been crowned 400m medley European champion in 2013 and world runner-up in the 200m breast stroke and 400m medley last year.

Portuguese squad in full: João Vaz, Diogo Matos, Diogo Santos, Filipe Santos, José Ribeiro, José Vieira, Adriana Reis, Ana Castro, Carina Moreira, Diana Torres and Filipa Reis.

Sporting coach Rui Gama is also part of the traveling contingent.

DSISO European Championships in November

João Vaz has been called up by the Portuguese Swimming Federation for the DSISO European Championships, taking place in the Italian city of Loano from the 6th to the 12th of November

As well as Vaz, coach Rui Gama surge also features amongst a technical team of four.
